Supernatural: Season 07 (2012)
23 episodes, approx 42 mins each.
My hope going into Season 07 was that it would be an improvement over Season 06, even just enough to lift the series out of the shit-heap that showrunner Sera Gamble had put it in, but I don't feel that that happened.
A large part of the reason is the new ongoing threat, first mentioned in the season opener.
Known as Leviathans, the carnivorous bitey things (as pictured on the cover art) were created by God before even the Angels, but for reasons that I won't go into were imprisoned in a holding place that was made just for them. Naturally, they find a way through into the world of humans. And that's as good as that particular story arc gets.
It may have seemed like a good idea to give the Biblical themes a bit of a rest, so as not to lessen or oversaturate the concept, but the Leviathan arc that was put in its place is the kind of thing that ought to have taken up a two or three-parter, at most. It might actually have had some power or efficacy then. But stretching it to an entire season was beyond optimistic.
Alas, there are a few key events that ought to be seen by anyone who plans to go to the next season (and beyond), specifically the introduction and establishing of Kevin Tran's (Osric Chau) role, and there's an important turn of events for Bobby Singer (Jim Beaver), but the majority of what else is on offer is weak shite, with inconsistent character traits and more half-endings.
I've watched every episode of Supernatural thus far, no matter how bad it was, but the one that introduced Felicia Day was the final straw. I FFW'd part of it. It was literally insufferable.
I left a 'Note to Future Self' in the previous post, a reminder for me to never watch a particular episode ever again. I'm leaving another one in this post: skip this ENTIRE Season next time.
